LAMDA celebrates at the Black British Theatre Awards 2025

LAMDA was proud to be a sponsor of this year's Black British Theatre Awards, held on Sunday 26 October at the Piccadilly Theatre in London.

A dazzling and star-studded evening, the ceremony honoured the outstanding talent, creativity and cultural contribution of Black artists shaping the theatre industry with a gamut of awards celebrating powerful performances on the UK stage.

Attending the awards for LAMDA were esteemed faculty member, theatre maker and course leader, Dr Karen Tomlin, 2025 MFA graduate and student president Nigel Sudarkasa, and recent alumni Crystal Marshall and Anya Williams.

The evening delivered world-class performances from Alexandra Burke, Beverley Knight, the Kingdom Choir and the casts of Moulin Rouge! The Musical and The Harder They Come. Plus, the nominees represented the rich spectrum of Black artistry shaping the British stage today, with performers from Shifters, The Lion King, Hamilton, Starlight Express, Hadestown and Oliver! The Musical all taking home awards.

As part of our ongoing commitment to championing women on stage and screen, LAMDA sponsored the Best Female Lead Actor in a Play award.

We were delighted to congratulate the brilliant Beverley Knight, who took home the award for her exceptional work in Marie & Rosetta at The Rose Theatre and who continues to be a trailblazing inspiration across stage and screen.

We were also thrilled to be reunited with 2024 LAMDA graduate Kyle Ndukuba, who was nominated for Best Male Lead Actor in a Play for his acclaimed performance in Romeo and Juliet. Kyle’s recognition so early in his career reflects not only his talent and dedication to his craft, but the bold work and artistry of the next generation of LAMDA graduates shaping the future of theatre.

Being part of such an important celebration of achievement and artistry within the Black British theatre community is a huge honour, and we remain committed to supporting and elevating voices and stories from all backgrounds.
