Interviewing for MA Directing course

The interview

Your interview is an opportunity for us to get to know you and learn more about why you want to train with us. As part of the interview you will need to present examples of your work that you feel may be of interest to us, and to support your application. You will also be able to ask us any questions that you may have.

Here are some things to take note of:

All interviews take place here at LAMDA in Barons Court. If you live overseas you may be able to be interviewed via Zoom.
We’ll let you know the date of your interview about two to three weeks prior to the date, but it may be shorter notice, so make sure you’re prepared.
Your interview will last for about 30-40 minutes.
Your portfolio should be uploaded with your application or emailed to us in advance of your interview. Unfortunately we are not able to provide facilities to view DVDs or recordings during the interview.

Application notification and waitlisting

We will contact you within two or three weeks of your interview (although this may vary throughout the year) and let you know if:

You're successful. If so, you'll progress to the second round, which consists of a practical session followed by a second interview.

Second round interviews will take place between May - July (dates may be subject to change).
Applicants will be contacted by the Admissions team with more specific information ahead of their recall. Requests for further information can be put in writing to [email protected]

Or if you’ve not been successful this time.

Notification of final result

Our Admissions team will do their best to share the result within two-three weeks. They will let you know if;

You've been offered a place on the course
You’ve not been successful this time

FAQs

Who can apply?

You will need a BA degree or equivalent, or relevant professional experience. We welcome applications from everyone, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender or if you have any disabilities, as long as you are passionate about developing your talent and learning new skills.

Please let us know in advance if you need any adjustments or special requirements made to your audition due to a disability.  If you have a disability that is not visible, for example dyslexia or epilepsy, please let LAMDA's Admissions and Student Services Manager know so that we can make sure any facilities are available for you if appropriate. Any information you give us won’t affect your application and will remain confidential. We’ll only let other staff members know with your permission.

What does it mean if I’m waitlisted?

There are only a very limited number of places available at LAMDA. If you’re not offered a place straight away, you may be placed on a waiting list. This means if someone who was offered a place decides not to accept their place, it may become available to you. The waitlist will be in operation until the August prior to the start of the course.

Can I appeal my result?

The interview procedures are intended to be fair and transparent. When you apply for a place at LAMDA, your entry is on the understanding that there is an acceptance of the professional judgement of the audition team. The only grounds for an appeal are if you feel that your interview was not judged fairly and can clearly demonstrate the reasons why this was the case.

All appeals must be made in writing within two weeks of the interview date, not the result.
